50% Drop In Milk Price, Dairy Industry Still Excited For Future

This morning, USA Today posted a video and story about a Pennsylvania dairy farmer talking about his operation, milk check and the future of the industry. Surprisingly enough, even in the midst of the downturn, dairy producer Walt Moore's message was clear: the future of the dairy industry is bright.

While milk prices have dropped almost 50 percent from last year on Moore's fourth-generation dairy farm, Moore believes the market will correct itself and prices will rebound, allowing him to continue the lifestyle he loves.

On the dairy processing side, good news abounds as well. A new survey is showing Wisconsin dairy plants are still looking to expand over the next five years despite the current financial crunch. That means processors are optimistic that more milk will be produced by the cheese-state dairy producers, later to be put on shelves for consumers.
