There’s a new resource that will allow more farmers to become directly involved in educating the consuming public about where their food comes from and how it is produced. Last Friday marked the introduction of Ag Chat Foundation, a nonprofit organization designed to empower farmers to leverage social media as a tool to tell agriculture’s story.
The foundation’s roots lay in #AgChat, a weekly Twitter conversation that quickly grew into an international online community of farmers, ranchers and other ag professionals. AgChat Foundation has four program areas; Agvocacy 2.0 Training, Strategic Agvocacy Coordination, Data Analysis and Technology Scholarships.
The goal is to help those who produce food use social media tools that can help them tell their stories to the 98.5 percent of Americans who are not involved in food production. It’s a well-timed idea that provides yet another example of the power of online communities and social media.
Video is just one of the tools AgChat Foundation is using to connect with farmers. In this clip, California rancher Jeff Fowle talks about his operation and the formation of the AgChat Foundation.
