As the holiday weekend approaches and most are getting excited about family gatherings, a weekend on the beach or a backyard bbq, the staff here at Charleston|Orwig is geared up to head back to the family farm. For most here at the office, returns can be few and far between and working with our agricultural clients on a daily basis gets us all a little anxious for the opportunity.
Personally, my Memorial Day weekend experience involves a trip back to my family’s Minnesota dairy farm. Fortunately, with the extended weekend, I will be able to help on all facets of the farm including milking, feeding, calf care and field work. I will make it home just in time to help finish up our first crop of hay and as any farm kid knows, there is no smell better than that of freshly cut alfalfa. And of course, the weekend would not be complete without a family gathering filled with great food and plenty of lawn games.
Fellow staff members are also looking forward to a trip home this weekend, complete with finishing the planting season and helping out in the barn with various chores. Ashley Boydstun, one of our PR writers, looks forward to eating home-raised beef with her family and seeing the progress the new calf crop has made thus far back on her family farm in Illinois.
Whether it is a weekend filled with trips to the beach or chores on the farm, it is sure to be a vacation for the staff at Charleston|Orwig; agriculture is a part of our lives and there is nothing more enjoyable than a trip back home, where our passion for agriculture originated.
